Here’s a very interesting time I spent on reading about understanding politics and journalism over the internet. Before IIIT, I started reading newspapers when I was in Ahmadabad preparing for GRE. Since then I am find Indian politics interesting discussing it with my father and friends. After reading different newspapers I now hate the way TOI works now. We are fortunate enough to have newspapers like The Hindu and Indian Express. They worth every single penny you spend and Yes they are costlier than shitty TOI. The politics we people as citizens get notified is all about the news that is being served to us through newspapers, TV channels and Radio. In rural, people are least concerned about the politics as they cannot get over to their farming which is not at all bad. In some interview with a farmer, journalist asked him about how his life would change after having budget announced in India. The poor farmer didn’t even knew the name of finance minister or even the prime minister. They still just know the name “Indira Gandhi” who reformed their lives 40 years back.
So that was not the point of writing this blog. I wanted to share a video and few insights about the journalism. When you talk about it the newspaper comes to everyone’s mind on the first. There is a newspaper in Rajkot named AKHIL. It has got 24 pages generally with 4 page of news and remaining 20 page for advertisement. These advertisements are not for general product or promotional ads we perceive. They are people ads issuing about problems they face (For ex. handpump is not working). This ad would cost them just 5 rs. / 10 rs. and that area minister is suppose to solve those problems. The good thing about this paper is it is highly circulated and number is in lakhs. The reason I like listening to Vividh Bharti is because it has no nonsense news that one should hear with stupid ads. I indeed envy our parents who used to listen Ameen Sayani. He had more popularity than movie actors that time.
So we were talking about the interview with Punya Prasun Bajpai. He explains the ‘Power of an Editor’ but until and unless he/she is not glorified about the glamorous world of this journalism today. Today like TOI being the largest selling newspaper in India we see an ad on front page having no idea that it is really an ad or not. The ‘Adv’ with less than 10 font size is in the top-right most corner on the cover. So that’s not the case if we talk about US. A newspaper cannot do that there. In India not just front pages even headlines and story page is also been sold. The editor of Pioneer is BJP MP, congress MP got ticket after he started Hindustan Times.
He asked new journalists to understand the meaning of alternative economics. We now talk about fundamental concepts on liberalization and globalization who’s definition is now have changed. We have now institutionalized the corruption in a way that hinder the sense of reality to us which is served from these media.
We always notice one political party versus other as so the case of Lalit Modi and Vyapam. Jounalism has become so kiotic now in india, money and TRP is everything for people. One person is in jail, the next day he is in parliament and people show sympathy clicking selfies with them. Now excess journalism world is present. Talking about Himashal Pradesh government where BJP is elected, the congress ministers handle of hotel, transport, food etc. So how politics work there? Why he being a congress party member would be allowed to do that? Look at the credibility of journalism. Don’t forget Lalu, he is so hilarious in our minds.
